In Genesis 1:3-25, God spoke order into His creation. God established man’s environment so he could be fruitful, replenish, multiply, subdue and have dominion. Genesis 1:26 cites five domains in which man is to have dominion; 1) fish of the sea, 2) fowl of the air, 3) cattle, 4) all the earth, and 5) every creeping thing.
God has prepared five domains in which every Christian has been created for success. To understand this, take a moment and examine your hand. Each finger represents a domain (family, work, church, community and self). These domains aren’t listed in order of importance because from time-to-time your focus has to shift based on what’s going on in each domain. Just as your fingers are connected to the palm of your hand, your domains should be connected to Jesus Christ. Jesus should be at the center of each domain.
A few weeks ago I had the ornamental grass on my lawn cut back for the winter. With the grass cut back, a large unsightly electrical power box can now be seen. When the technician installed it last year he explained it provided power for everyone on my block. Are you the power on your block? Do you pray for those in your community? When I walk my dog, I use that time to pray for every home represented in my neighborhood. It’s an opportunity to intercede on behalf of the residents because I was born to rule in my community. Do you operate in your domains like a thermometer or a thermostat? A thermometer reacts to its environment. Whereas a thermostat regulates its environment.
In Genesis 1:1-25, God models how we’re to rule our domains. We see over and over again, “God said.” He spoke order into disorder, light into darkness, increase into a void. What are you speaking into your family, work, church, community and yourself?
Proverbs 4:7 says, “Wisdom is the principle thing.” The word wisdom has many meanings. It’s ascribed to a ruler. Those who rule do so with wisdom. Wisdom empowers you to manage your mind and emotions instead of your mind and emotions managing you. It allows you to make sound decisions. It produces good fruit (James 3:17). Wisdom can’t be earned or purchased. All you have to do is ask for it (James 1:5). When God says you’re to be fruitful and multiply, it means you’re called to become and do greater than you’ve ever done before. Wisdom is a key ingredient for kingdom success.
God has given us dominion in every area of our lives. To have dominion means, “to have supreme authority or control. It’s a territory or sphere of control or influence.” You have been given God-delegated authority to rule your domains. Authority isn’t something you have to go after. It’s already in your possession. Therefore, you can do just what God did when He spoke creation into existence.
Now if we’re honest, some domains are doing better than others. For some of us, it looks like all hell has broken loose in every domain. So how do you rule when it looks like everything is out of whack? You’re to rule with your mouth. Nothing happens in the Kingdom of God until something is said. When you speak, you create either good or bad. In Genesis 1, God spoke things into their proper place. We’re created to do the same. This is not the time to throw in the towel. Instead, start speaking things into order. Persistence is key.
God does everything with purpose in mind. You are not an accident. God planned everything about you and your life with purpose; the color of your eyes, skin and hair, your height, the date of your birth, the family you were born into, even your birth order. You were not created to exist, just get by, or maintain a mediocre existence. You’re not anyone’s doormat or whipping post. You have been created to rule. Pray for wisdom to rule your domains wisely. Pray for increase in your domains. Pray for your domains daily. Remember, you were born to rule!!!
Until next time…Be blessed!
